Glysophate Being Found in Food

.

April 6, 2024

Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide in the world and is used to keep weeds under control. It has been linked to various diseases like cancer, ALS, reproductive problems, infant mortality, learning problems in children, birth defects, and is a known endocrine disrupter.

Many foods have been found to contain this dangerous chemical like almonds, carrots, corn, soy products, wheat products, beets, hummus, oats, and many other food products too numerous to list. Yikes! What do we do?

There are things you can do to limit or at least cut down on your family’s exposure to glyphosate. Shop and eat organic when you can. Even though some organic products have tested positive for this chemical, the amount is usually lower than what you will find in non-organic food items. Check your labels and pick brands that explicitly state “glyphosate-free.” Plant a garden and grow your organic vegetables. Ultimately, our food producers will have to address this issue and hopefully will eliminate this harmful chemical.

Microplastics Found in Every Human Placenta

April 1, 2024

In 2023, researchers in Hawaii analyzed over 30 different placentas and found plastic particles in all of them. That’s right, all of them. Placentas donated between 2006 and 2023, showed that the plastic contamination increased over time. In all of the 62 tissue samples looked at the team found various concentrations of microplastics in every single one. This is higher than levels found in blood.

It is a known fact that the toxins in plastic affect the fetus as they develop into adulthood and beyond in very negative ways. For more information go to the National Library of Medicine website article.

80% of Americans Test Positive Chlormequat

April 1, 2024

A harmful pesticide called chlormequat, a highly toxic chemical used on oats and other grains that prevent them from bending over so that they can be harvested has been detected in 80% of Americans that were tested. 92% of foods tested including foods made under the Quaker Oats and General Mills brands had chlormequat in them. In 2024, The Environmental Working Group (EWG) published a study in the Journal of Exposure Science & Environmental Epidemiology that found 90% higher levels of this chemical in the urine of those tested in 2023 than in previous years which suggests exposure is rising.

This chemical has been found to disrupt fetal growth in animals and has damaged their reproductive systems. It has shown to damage the head and bones of animals subjects and has altered key metabolic processes. Eating organic products may only reduce your risk of ingesting this chemical. Seven organic products were tested with one showing low levels of chlormequat.

On another scary note, under President Biden’s administration the US Environmental Protection Agency proposed allowing the use of this chemical on barley, oat, triticale, and wheat grown in the United States. Until the government addresses concerns with chlormequat the EWG recommends only buying organically grown oat products.
